چکیده

We show that a signiÐcant fraction of the energy of a c-ray burst (GRB) is probably converted to a burst of 1017È1019 eV neutrinos and multiple GeV c-rays that follow the main GRB by D10 s. If GRBs accelerate protons to D1020 eV, a suggestion that recently gained support from observations of GRB afterglows, then both the neutrinos and the c-rays may be detectable. Subject headings : acceleration of particles È elementary particles È gamma rays : bursts

Long-term Neutrino Afterglows from Gamma-Ray Bursts

It is widely believed that multiwavelength afterglows of gamma-ray bursts (GRBs) originate from relativistic blast waves. We here show that in such blast waves, a significant fraction of the energy of shock-accelerated protons would be lost due to pion production by interactions with afterglow photons. This could lead to long-term production of 10–10 eV neutrinos and sub-TeV γ-rays that accompa...

Prompt Neutrino Emission from Gamma-Ray Bursts

Recent observations show that some or possibly all long-duration gamma-ray bursts (GRBs) arise from the core collapse of massive stars. In this case, the GRB environments are believed to be preburst stellar winds. We here study prompt neutrino emission from reverse shocks as a result of the interaction of relativistic fireballs with their surrounding wind matter. We find that for reasonable par...

Neutrinos from Gamma Ray Bursts

We show that the detection of neutrinos from a typical gamma ray burst requires a kilometer-scale detector. We argue that large bursts should be visible with the neutrino telescopes under construction. We emphasize the 3 techniques by which neutrino telescopes can perform this search: by triggering on i) bursts of muons from muon neutrinos, ii) muons from air cascades initiated by high energy g...
